There have now been two deaths reported associated with the Mississippi State Fair. The Hinds county Sheriff’s Office is investigating one of them, and the Jackson Police Department is looking into the other.
In the first death, deputies were called to the scene after an employee with North American Midway Events, the provider of rides for the fair, said he went to check on an employee that did not arrive for his 1:30 p.m. assignment. The 48-year-old man was found dead at that time. The name of the man has not yet been released.
Major Pete Luke with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said that investigators were on the scene and that “there is no immediate sign of trauma.”
In the second reported death, the JPD said a 40-year-old male was found dead in a room at the Regency Hotel Thursday morning at around 12:07am.
The cause of death is still pending but it appeared to be a drug related overdose. Drug paraphernalia was found inside the room.
It is also believe that the male was employed with the fair at the time of his death.
