JACKSON, Miss. – The wives of some inmates in Mississippi prisons have started a fight against the decision to end their conjugal visits with their jailed husbands.
State Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps announced earlier this month that the marital visits would be banned at the end of January. There has been mounting criticism about how much money is spent to have the visits, and the number of babies being conceived. But, the Mississippi Advocates for Prisoners say the benefits of such visits far outweigh the costs.
