According to the Mississippi Department of Education, in the two years that the 3rd grade reading assessment test has been administered, each year has shown improvement. In 2015, the first “reading gate” as it’s called, saw 85.2% of 3rd graders pass on the first try. Last year’s results saw results of 87% passing on the first try. Education officials applauded the efforts by teachers in the classroom, as well as parents at home.
Officials also cheered the efforts of intense remediation for students who were struggling to pass their reading tests. The programs involved one-on-one coaching and special attention during the school year that led to the marked improvements.
The 2017 reading gate test will be administered Wednesday, April 19. We’ll have results as soon as they are made available.
