WASHINGTON, D.C.–It’s not clear yet just how many of the 96,000 lbs. of Oscar-Mayer wieners in the wrong package have made it into Mississippi stores, or exactly where they were sold, but they could be harmful if you think you’re getting a regular frank, and it’s actually stuffed with cheese, and you’re allergic.
That’s why the big fuss, said Kraft Foods, which has issued the recall. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service says the product labels are incorrect and do not reflect the ingredients associated with the pasteurized cheese in the dogs.
This is what you need to look for:
- 16 ounce packages of individual consumer packages of “Classic Wieners made with turkey and chicken, pork added” with use by date of June 16, 2014, with a code of 044700000632.
- Cases of 16 ounce packages, distributed to retailers of “Classic Cheese Dogs made with turkey and chicken, pork added and pasteurized cheese product” with a use by date of June 16, 2014, with a code of 00447000005300.
So far there have been no reports of any bad happenings by anyone who may have eaten the cheese dogs, thinking they were regular franks.
