A Wisconsin man wanted for a fatal multi-state police chase beginning in Arkansas and ending in Mississippi has been taken into custody.
The Hernando Police Department reports that 37-year-old Matthew George Nemacheck was responsible for leading authorities on the high-speed chase. The pursuit began when police were notified that a blue Dodge Ram with Wisconsin plates refused to stop for authorities outside of Crittenden County, Arkansas on Interstate 55 South.
During the course of the chase, Nemacheck’s vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a semi-truck after merging into oncoming traffic on the interstate. The driver of the commercial vehicle, later identified as 40-year-old Milan Alilovic, a New York native, succumbed to his injuries.
Officers reportedly used stop sticks to stop the suspect’s vehicle prior to the collision with Alilociv’s truck. The pursuit concluded in a fiery crash.
Nemacheck is charged with culpable negligent manslaughter. He is being held on a $350,000 bond in the DeSoto County Detention Center.
