The William Carey baseball team is off to a hot start in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) World Series.
The No. 6 Crusaders (48-9) took down Bellevue 6-4 in Friday evening’s opener at Harris Field on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.
Led by multi-hit games from Rigoberto Hernandez, RJ Stinson, and Bobby Lada, William Carey hopped out to a 4-0 lead after two-run outings in the first and fifth innings. The Bruins eventually broke through, tying the game at four in the top of the eighth, but it didn’t take long for the Crusaders to retake the lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Stinson drove in Kris Jones with an RBI double before Jake Lycette added an insurance run with a sac fly to score Stinson. RHP Preston Ratliff (5-3) earned the win in relief recording the last four outs of the game.
Next up for the Crusaders will be a Monday night matchup against Southeastern (56-4). First pitch is set for 8:35 p.m. CT and can be listened to on SuperTalk Mississippi Hattiesburg.
