JACKSON, Miss. – According to pro healthcare reform group, Families USA, 1 out of 20 Mississippians have individual private health insurance. Those Mississippians are at risk of losing their insurance if it does not meet the standards set by the affordable care act. Ron Pollock, Executive Director of Families USA Mississippi, says most Mississippians with insufficient coverage should not have to worry about their insurance being canceled for over a year.
“Your insurance commissioner has already indicated that there is a one year increment allowance for people to stay on their insurance policies, even if those polices are substandard,” said Pollock.
After that year, if your insurance does not meet the affordable care act standards and you are not in an income group that can get subsidized insurance, you may be paying more for insurance, but odds are you will have better coverage.
