VICKSBURG, Miss.–If you thought it was especially hot Sunday, you were right. But, today may end up being the hottest day of the year, so far. An excessive heat warning is in effect for most of the state and it could get as hot as 105. That’s not a heat index, it could be the actual temperature.
“We’re talking about afternoon heat index values that could range between 110 to 115 degrees,” said Alan Campbell, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. He said that’s with the heat and humidity factored in together.
“Once you get into those values, you start to see more increased risk for heat-related illness, including heat stroke.”
He said the best advice is to stay in the AC if at all possible.

Sunday afternoon’s temperatures were hottest in central Mississippi. Campbell said Vicksburg and Jackson both recorded 103 for the actual temperature.
Campbell said Tuesday will still be hot, with a heat advisory. By Wednesday, a cool down will be more noticeable.
“Highs are gonna generally range from the low to the middle 90s from Wednesday on into the weekend,” said Campbell. He said dryer air could take lows into the 60s in some places.
But, the rain chances will likely not go up.
