GULFPORT, Miss. – Two juvenile whales were rescued near Waveland beach Tuesday. The whales are being taken care of by the Institute of Marine Mammal Studies.
The two are said to be pygmy killer whales and not melon-headed whales, which the staff had originally thought. According to researches with the IMMS, not much is known about pygmy whales.
Scientist from around the world are helping identify and provide relevant information about the two species.
The IMMS says the pair appear to be getting healthier.
