A West Point man has been taken into custody for attempting to rob a local sporting wear store twice within a 15-minute span over the weekend.
Trevonte Dixon, 23, is accused of attempting to steal approximately $3,000 worth of merchandise from Hibbett Sports on US-45 ALT on Sunday.
Police report that Dixon brandished a knife at the store’s cashier in the initial attempt. After the employee threatened to dial 911, the subject dropped the goods and fled the scene — just to return minutes later.
During the second attempt at nabbing supplies, Dixon was met by law enforcement awaiting his arrival. He was handcuffed at the scene and charged with attempted armed robbery.
Authorities say more charges could follow.
