West Point is the latest Mississippi city to implement a youth curfew in a statewide effort to curb crimes committed by juveniles.
First reported by WTVA, city officials alongside Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott announced the curfew for those 18 and under in response to a homicide and a hospital shooting involving two minors that occurred on Sunday, January 14.
The incidents left two dead and multiple injured, resulting in three arrests though more arrests are expected, per law enforcement.
The Golden Triangle city followed similar moves by a few of its peers across the state, including Vicksburg, Batesville, and Jackson, in an ongoing attempt to solve the troubling uptick in youth violence and criminal behavior in Mississippi.
West Point’s curfew will begin at 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
