Jackson— There’s something right here at home for everyone this weekend.
If you’re a lover of gospel, blues, or all things Mississippi head out to Clarksdale for the Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival. A 25 year tradition, It’s an all weekend event for those looking to celebrate the life and culture of the Mississippi Delta. Friday the main stage comes to life at 5pm with the Delta Blues Museum Band. The party continues well into the night with Latimore taking stage at 10:45pm. Saturday is a tribute to Big Jack Johnson and the VIP tent will open to the public. Then Sunday at 4pm gospel takes over to the end of the festival. A family-friendly festival may be your choice if your in Oxford. The Oxford Downtown Council Summer Fest is at the Oxford Courthouse lawn Saturday from 10am to 3:30pm. There will be vendors, food, face painting, a moon jump and other activities for the kids. If the heat is too much, you’ll have free sno-cones to keep cool.
For the more hands-on the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art has a unique opportunity for you to bond with the kids before they head back to school. You’ll work together with them to make ceramic mermaid wind chimes. The staff will teach you and the youngster how to mold and decorate the pieces.
