Weekday weather rundown: New Year’s Day, freezing temperatures

Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect from the weather across Mississippi on the first day of 2018.

In North Mississippi, a wind chill advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday. Today, expect sunny skies with highs only reaching the lower 20s. The lowest wind chill readings will be 1 to 6 below zero in the morning. Tonight, clear skies with lows around 7 to 8 degrees. The lowest wind chill readings will again range from 1 below to 6 below zero after midnight.

In Central Mississippi, there is a hard freeze warning in effect until noon on Wednesday the 3rd, as well as, a wind chill advisory in effect until 11 a.m. Tuesday. Today there will be partly sunny skies in the morning, then clearing a big. Highs will be in the upper 20s. The lowest wind chill reading are set to be 5 below to zero in the morning. Tonight, clear skies with lows around 14 to 15. Again very cold at night with wind chill readings around 4 below to only 1 above zero.

 

In South Mississippi, there is a hard freeze warning in effect until noon on Tuesday, as well as a wind chill advisory in effect from 8 p.m. this evening, to 9 a.m. Tuesday. Today, mostly sunny skies for the first day of the new year. Highs will be in the mid-30s and the lowest wind chill readings are ranging from 3 to 8 in the morning. Tonight, mostly clear with lows around 15 to 16. Wind chill readings are remaining frigid around zero to 5 above zero.
