From the moment he had arrived at Mississippi State, Coach Joe Moorhead had displayed a confidence and a coolness about him whenever he spoke publicly. Today, following his first loss as head coach of the Bulldogs, he showed off a fiery side, making it clear that the sloppy play and penalties that plagued his team Saturday night in a 28-7 loss to Kentucky would not be tolerated going forward. Moorhead said he has instituted a new policy that will remove any player from the game after an unsportsmanlike conduct for an indefinite amount of time, “until I tell them to get back in the game.”
It’s interesting to see Moorhead so emotional when as he said and as we all know, the Bulldogs are likely to be sky high this weekend in the long anticipated return of Dan Mullen to Starkville as the Bulldogs take on Florida. Moorhead acknowledged the “emotional component” of this game, but said he felt it would not have an impact on the final result. That will be an interesting storyline to watch, can this Bulldog team which has played out of control at times be able to reign it in against their former head coach?
We’ll have a lot to talk about today on SportsTalk Mississippi, I’ll join Richard Cross and Michael Borkey at 3:20 PM to recap Saturday’s loss and begin to look ahead to one of the most talked about games in Mississippi State history.
