12 deaths have now been confirmed following Mississippi’s arctic cold blast that lingered for most of the week.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has confirmed deaths in Marshall, Panola, Humphreys, Leflore, Rankin, Sharkey, Sunflower, and Washington counties.

According to MEMA, the most recent happened in Marshall County. No additional details have been released at this time.
Other deaths that have taken place since Jan. 14 have consisted of a man in Humphreys County being struck on the side of Highway 49, a walker in Sharkey County dying in a field near a local elementary school, and a woman in Rankin County dying while sitting in her uncranked vehicle.
Car crashes have made up most of the fatality count.
