JACKSON, Miss. – You are in for a hot weekend. High temperatures are going to be in the upper 90s.
According to National Weather Service meteorologist Allen Campbell, by Sunday afternoon the index could get up to 100 to 102 degrees due to high pressure and increased humidity.
“We just have high pressure that is sitting right on top of us, as well as a loft in the atmosphere. It is acting as a blocking mechanisms, keeping any fronts and things like that from coming in.. The air is sinking across the area so it really hampers the rain chances during the day, allowing us to heat up each afternoon,” said Campbell.
Remember, with hot weather, do not leave your kids or pets in the car. Temperatures can get well over 120 degrees with no ventilation, which can cause them to have a heat stroke. If you see a child locked in a car in the heat. Call 911, it could save their life.
