Weather: Heating Up in Mississippi, First Tropical Depression May Form

JACKSON, Miss.–It’s heating up all across Mississippi. High temperatures are in the mid 90s and you’re going to hear the word heat index in this week’s forecast and probably for weeks to come.

You’re going to see mid 90s today, with sunny skies and maybe a slight chance for an afternoon thunderstorm, but chances are much slimmer than last week.

Your AC is going to be working over time, so News Mississippi will have some tips to help you keep your power bill from going sky high.

Meanwhile, in the tropics, this year’s first depression could be forming. That’s what scientists look for when trying to determine if a hurricane will form.

News Mississippi Meteorologist Todd Adams said Monday morning that the possible depression is on the Atlantic side of Florida and that the forecast models show it will likely move up the Atlantic side if it does become a depression, and will likely not affect the Mississippi coast.
