The Southeastern Conference (SEC) announced its 2025 women’s basketball awards Tuesday, with both Ole Miss and Mississippi State being represented in the postseason honors.
For Mississippi State, star guard Jerkalia Jordan was named to the All-SEC Second Team for the second season in a row. The senior is averaging 16 points, six rebounds, and two assists per game and is up for the Gillom Trophy – given annually to the top women’s college basketball player in Mississippi.
Madison Scott, an Ole Miss forward who is also a Gillom Trophy finalist, joined Jordan on the All-SEC Second Team. The graduate player is a force for the Rebels, with a stat line of 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game.
Scott was a first-teamer in 2023-24 and a second-teamer in 2022-23 after being named SEC Freshman of the Year in 2020-21.
Ole Miss’ Sira Thienou was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. The six-foot-tall guard is averaging 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists per game in her inaugural season in Oxford.
Former Mississippi State head coach Vic Schaefer, who now leads the charge at Texas, was named SEC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career. He won the award in 2015, 2018, and 2019 in Starkville before leaving for the Longhorns in 2021. Schaeffer’s star player, Madison Booker, is a Ridgeland, Miss., native who was named SEC Player of the Year.
Both Ole Miss (19-9, 10-6) and Mississippi State (20-10, 7-9) are not only vying for spots in the NCAA Tournament, but the Rebels are working to land a host position for the opening round. Ole Miss has spent a majority of the season in the AP Top 25 before dropping out recently, now being one of a handful of teams on the outside receiving votes. Schaefer’s Texas (29-2, 15-1) is the top-ranked team in the nation and is one of the favorites to win this year’s national championship.
All three teams will now gear up for the SEC Tournament, the final stop before the Big Dance, in Greenville, S.C. Mississippi State will play Missouri on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Ole Miss will play the winner of that game on Thursday at 5 p.m. Texas, who received a double bye, will play the winner of Ole Miss and Mississippi State/Missouri on Friday at 5 p.m.
