Mississippi State donned full pads on Wednesday as the grind of fall camp continues in Starkville. It was a short session to view for the local media, but there were a couple of highlights worth watching.

Here was a drill where they finally had Tommy Stevens and Keytaon Thompson working without being on the field at the same time. I did a comparison of the same throw from both quarterbacks.
OK so those throw videos were all mixed up. Let’s try this again, here’s Tommy Stevens. pic.twitter.com/roGGdvJC3q

Couple of observations from here inside the Seal Building…..
– One player on the offensive side of the ball that has stood out to me in the drills I’ve seen is JUCO transfer wide receiver JaVonta Payton. He’s just a fluid athlete, great body control, and he’s catching what’s being thrown to him. Mississippi State needs receivers to step in a big way, Payton might be somebody to keep an eye on.
– Willie Gay has been off the field in the injury pit the last two practices, wearing the red jersey and a boot. Obviously State has the depth at linebacker to absorb that hit, but Gay is such a big part of the defense, MSU will want him back in action as soon as possible.
