Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke said senior running back Scottie Phillips is doubtful for Saturday’s game against New Mexico State.
Phillips exited the Rebels’ 20-14 loss to Auburn in the second quarter with an ankle injury and did not return. The trickle down effect of his potential absence is similar to what the rushing offense looked like for the rest of the game last Saturday evening, meaning more carries for true freshmen Snoop Conner and Jerrion Ealy. Sophomore Isaiah Woullard — who has seen action in just two games this year after a productive redshirt freshman campaign in which he totaled 84 carries for 428 yards and four touchdowns — may also see increase playing time.
Luke updated the status of guard Ben Brown, the mood of the locker room and more at his Wednesday media opportunity.
Elijah Moore has been the focal point of a struggling passing offense this season. The sophomore slot receiver has compiled 52 receptions for 652 yards and four touchdowns. The next closest receiver in receptions is Dontario Drummond with 11. Simply put, Ole Miss’ passing offense has been putrid this season and the overall production has suffered as a result. The team has scored 31 combined points the last two games. Both were one-score losses in which the defense gave the offense ample opportunity to seize control of the game. Moore discussed his productive year despite the struggles, how the Rebels can get the passing game going and more.
