VIDEO ON DEMAND: Mississippi Republicans Unite for Vote Push Event, Final Shot at Issues Before Election Day

JACKSON, MISS– Mississippi’s top republicans joined together at the Ag Museum for the “Get Out the Vote” event Monday.

It was the party’s last effort to get the word out about voting, candidates, and issues before election day on Tuesday.

Republican party leader Joe Nosef, Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney, State Auditor Stacey Pickering, candidate for Attorney General Mike Hurst, Secretary of State Delbert Hoseman, Speaker of the House Philip Gunn, Lt. Governor Tate Reeves, and Governor Phil Bryant all spoke at the event.

There were two common denominators among the speakers. Mike Hurst must win, and initiative 42 must fall.

“We have to rise up,” says Governor Bryant, encouraging those in attendance to spread the word about voting.

When it comes to initiative 42, Speaker Gunn says that the basic math of it doesn’t work.

“If we’re going to give money to one agency, it has to come from somewhere,” says Gunn, “if we don’t have anymore money, we have to go get money. We either take it from another agency or raise taxes. Under this administration, we won’t raise taxes.”
