VICKSBURG, Miss.- They’ve been passing them out over the past few weeks but pretty soon all of the Vicksburg police officers will be armed with body cameras.
The department is not just assigning the cameras to a few officers, they’re giving them to everyone, reports the Vicksburg Post. They’ve been passing out about 7 a week and only have 15 left to give out.
They hope that by providing officers with the body cameras over an extended period of time they can avoid mass technical problems and everyone will be trained properly.
Police Chief Walter Armstrong says even though vehicles have had dashboard cameras for years, body cameras allow for more insight as to what officers handle while on duty.
