A Vicksburg man has been arrested after police were told by the victim that he was shot by his younger brother.
Late Saturday night, Vicksburg Police officers were on their way to First Avenue while responding to a shooting call when they were flagged down by a vehicle near Martin Luther King Boulevard. Inside of the vehicle was 39-year-old Ronald Wells who was suffering from gunshot wound to his right forearm. Wells told police that he had been shot by his brother, 27-year old Rafeel Wells.
A media release from the VPD, they stated that officers had responded to the same First Avenue address earlier in the day in reference to a stabbing call. Officials say that upon arrival, officers found that Rafeel had suffered a cut to his left arm. Police learned there had been a fight inside the residence and some broken glass may have caused Rafeel’s cut during the altercation. The release says that the fight was over the use of a cell phone. No arrests were made following the fight. Both brothers live at the residence.
Rafeel was later arrested at their mother’s residence on First Avenue. Rafeel is currently being held in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility, and he will soon appear in the Vicksburg Municipal Court.
