Vicksburg’s KPC Promise Hospital could be forced to close its doors in less than a month, according to a notice sent to hospital staff on Friday.
The notice stated that the current lease will be terminated because of a substantial amount of missed payments, leading the hospital to be evicted from the sixth floor of the building. Promise Hospital has leased the portion of Merit Health River Region for approximately five years.
“Promise Hospital has been unable to fulfill its lease requirements for more than a year. Two long-term care facilities in Jackson will facilitate admission for patients who require LTAC services after discharge,” Merit Health officials stated.
Prior to 2018, the hospital was located at the west campus of Merit Health River Region for 15 years.
Dr. Torrance Green, M.D., told WJTV that Promise had made a deal with Merit Health to keep its doors open even though the hospital still owes $1 million in rent.
“Merit, who is in the way of receiving a good bit of those funds, taxpayer funds, they benefit from the state, supporting them through their financial distresses, but they don’t seem to be willing to help us, even though we’re recovering,” Green explained.
Promise Hospital is expected to close on June 8 if a lease agreement is not made.
