Very Wet Weekend for Mississippi, Flood Watch Continues South

BILOXI, Miss.–Will the rain ever end? The answer is yes. But, will it end before flooding becomes a safety issue in the southern counties? Maybe not. The National Weather Service has a flash flood watch in effect for Harrison, Hancock, Jackson, and Pearl River counties through Saturday evening.

“We have a dry forecast for Monday, but getting through the weekend is gonna be dicey,” said Robert Ricks, meteorologist with the New Orleans office of the Weather Service, which keeps watch over the Mississippi coast.

“We have several disturbances coming through. With daytime heating today, we should see some more showers ans storms where the rainfall could be heavy at times.”

He said rain has been on the light side overnight, but with the ground already saturated, there could be flooding with any heavy rain.

Ricks said things should improve during the day Sunday.

For the rest of the state, it’s the same story, only without the same kinds of flooding possibilities. Look for the weather to be sunny by Tuesday.
