JACKSON, Miss.- An 18-wheeler caught fire near Daniel Lake Boulevard early Tuesday morning, causing heavy traffic delays.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation confirmed that the vehicle was going southbound when the incident happened, and emergency responders were able to get the driver out of the truck safely.
Traffic delays were averaging close to three hours for vehicles in the southbound lanes of I-55 as workers tried to stop the fire and clear the road. Around 7:30 a.m. northbound lanes became impacted due to rerouted traffic.
Around 8:00 a.m. traffic along I-20 east began to be affected.
As of now officials report that both roads are still experiencing delays and people traveling on I-55 should expect delays around 1 hour 30 minutes until further notice.
