HATTIESBURG, Miss. – An University of Southern Mississippi fraternity has donated $9,000 to the non-profit organization, Extra Table.
The men of Sigma Phi Epsilon (Sig Ep) fraternity hosted their 9th annual Chili Cook Off in December of 2014. As is their tradition, the fraternity selected a non-profit organization to partner with and to donate proceeds to. Extra Table was selected for that partnership.
Extra Table is a non-profit organization with the mission of ending hunger (and obesity) in Mississippi. Extra Table is partnered with Sysco, the world’s largest food distributor, who helps purchase and deliver healthy food in bulk directly to food pantries and soup kitchens.
The Chili Cook Off included over 20 professional, community and student entrants, more than 30 sponsors, and several auction items for silent bidding that were donated by businesses throughout the Pine Belt community.
This week, Extra Table was presented with a $9,000 donation from the event’s proceeds. The entire donation will be used to purchase food to local agencies that work with Extra Table. This gift alone will help provide over 6 tons to the Pine Belt feeding agencies.
