Updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna have been approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and are now available in Mississippi.
The CDC recommends everyone six months of age and older get an updated vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 illness during the fall and the upcoming winter season.
According to the CDC, the virus that causes COVID-19 is always changing, and protection from vaccines declines over time. Receiving an updated vaccine can restore protection and provide enhanced defense against the variants currently responsible for most infections and hospitalizations.

The public health agency stated that hospitalizations were lower in those who obtained updated vaccines versus individuals who elected not to acquire a shot.
“We have more tools than ever to prevent the worst outcomes from COVID-19,” Director Mandy Cohen, M.D., M.P.H., said. “CDC is now recommending updated COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 6 months and older to better protect you and your loved ones.”
In Mississippi, COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are available at local pharmacies and from healthcare providers. Vaccines and boosters can also be received at a Mississippi State Department of Health clinic at no cost.
