Update: MEMA reports two fatalities, 77 injuries following Hurricane Zeta

11/2 Update: 

The devastation caused by Hurricane Zeta continues to mount.

The latest update from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency includes two fatalities and 77 injuries.

  • Harrison: 2 Deceased, 49 Injured
  • Jackson: 9 Injured
  • Perry: 1 Injured
  • Hancock: 17 Injured
  • George:  1 Injured

MEMA also updated its damage report to reflect that thousands of homes were damaged by the Category 2 system.

Jackson:

  • Total Homes Affected: 1322
  • Total Public Roads/Buildings Affected: 42

Harrison

  • Total Homes Affected: 7061
  • Total Businesses/Farms Affected: 195
  • Total Public Roads/Buildings Affected: 210

Hancock

  • Total Homes Affected: 350
  • Total Businesses/Farms Affected: 26 

Forrest

  • Total Homes Affected: 12

George

  • Total Homes Affected: 283
  • Total Businesses/Farms Affected: 2
  • Total Public Roads/Buildings Affected: 1

Greene

  • Total Homes Affected: 248
  • Total Businesses/Farms Affected:4

Perry

Original Report:

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has released its updated preliminary damage report following the recent impact of Hurricane Zeta on the Gulf Coast. 

The Category 2 system brought heavy rains and winds to the area resulting in downed power lines, damage to homes, roads and public buildings. MEMA confirmed one fatality and multiple injuries in Harrison County. 

While assessments are ongoing, MEMA provided the following damage report on Saturday night. 

  • Forrest County:
    • Total Homes Impacted: 12
  • Hancock County:
    • Total Homes Impacted: 165
    • Total Businesses Impacted: 17
  • Harrison County:
    • Total Homes Impacted: 997
    • Total Public Roads Impacted: 40
    • Total Public Buildings Impacted: 42
  • Jackson County:
    • Total Homes Impacted: 91
  • Perry County:
    • Total Homes Impacted: 9
    • Public Roads Impacted: 1
  • Stone County
    • Total Homes Impacted: 37
    • Total Public Roads Impacted: 2
    • Total Businesses Impacted: 2
  • Wayne County:
    • Total Homes Impacted: 9
    • Total Public Roads Impacted: 1

Additionally, the National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Noxubee County.
