Clinton Alvin Beasley, 80, and Loretta Ann Sykes, 53 were both pronounced dead at the scene after being hit. A third volunteer was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

Rigel said the Sumrall Volunteer Fire Association was assisting in a traffic accident when the hit-and-run took place.

Witnesses told Rigel that Eaton was spotted about six miles away on Scruggs Road following the accident.

“He had driven into someone’s yard and told them he had hit some people,” said Rigel. “So the homeowner called.. . and when we got there, we took him into custody and impounded the vehicle.”

Eaton is scheduled to see the judge at 11am Thursday. News Mississippi will continue to update this story as more information is released.
