RIDGELAND- Authorities said that a Ridgeland police officer shot at an alleged bank robber on Tuesday.
Update: The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer involved shooting and say that the teen was not armed with a weapon during the robberies.
Authorities initially thought he was after receiving a call from the bank saying that the suspect might be armed. This information was given to the officers responding to the call.
Police say the suspect was a 16-year-old who robbed the bank for an undisclosed amount of money on March 14, sometime around 2:00 p.m. He broke into the BancorSouth on S. Pear Orchard Road.
After he left an officer recognized the Toyota Yaris he was driving as the one driven by a robber in the area and tried to pull the driver over.
Officers chased him in vehicles into the Green Brook area,. He drove through yards, and hit several police cars before the getting out of the car and running. When he did not stop, officers fired shots.
MBI agents were soon called to the scene.
His injuries were reported non life threatening.
According to Warren Strain, Communication Director for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Criminal Reconstruction Unit are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the City of Ridgeland.
The shooting happened around 2:00 p.m. at the BancorpSouth branch in the 700 block of Pear Orchard Road after the bank was robbed.
Officers responded to the robbery and shots were fired.
The suspect in question was injured and transported to the hospital for treatment.
