Former Ole Miss defensive coordinator coach Tyrone Nix is joining Ole Miss’ staff, according to a release from Virginia Tech. Nix spent last season as the Hokies’ safeties coach.
Nix was the defensive coordinator under Houston Nutt from 2008-2011. The Rebels ranked as one of the better defenses in the SEC in Nix’s first two seasons before plummeting towards being the worst in his final two in Oxford. Nix spent five seasons at Middle Tennessee after his initial departure from Ole Miss, serving as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 2012-2014, before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2015.
Ole Miss has not yet announced what role Nix will have on the staff under new defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre. His brother, Derrick Nix, serves as running backs coach.
