JACKSON, Miss. — Two Medicaid bills are on their way to Governor Phil Bryant. That is the product of day two in the continuing special session to reauthorize the program. All amendments to expand the program were struck down.
Medicaid did not pass during the regular session because state Democrats wanted expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Republicans said the state could not afford it.
Bryant is expected to sign both the reauthorization bill and budget bill for the program. The session is not over, lawmakers expect Bryant allow them to consider a hospital tax that provides more money for the program.
