Two people have died following a fatal tour bus crash in North Mississippi.

Yesterday afternoon, a tour bus was headed southbound on 1-269 in DeSoto County when it went off of the road and flipped over. The bus, which was going to Tunica from Huntsville, Alabama, was carrying 46 people and the crash caused 2 deaths and 44 injuries.

The MHP noted that weather conditions were a contributing factor in the crash. With freezing temperatures present in Mississippi, icy road conditions had been reported in areas across the state.

Reports have identified the two fatalities as 76-year-old Betty Russell and 60-year-old Cynthia Hardin, both residents of Huntsville.

The MHP stated that there was a “wide variety” of injuries as the passengers were taken to several different hospitals in the area.

The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
