YAZOO CITY, Miss.–How many major wrecks can there be in one day in one county? Try for two and make it Yazoo. One of Tuesday’s wrecks involved a school bus and an 18-wheeler.
That one happened about 4 o’clock and there were still 20 kids on board when a transport truck sideswiped the bus on Hwy. 432. The truck busted the mirror and that hurt the driver and shook up the students.
Deputies on the scene said the truck took off but may not have known he hit the bus. Meanwhile the children were loaded on to another bus and taken home.
Injuries were more serious in another wreck that happened on the other side of the county on I-55 about 5:30. The Miss. Highway Patrol says a Chevy SUV was headed south near the Vaughan exit about 5:30 when a tire blew and the car started flipping.
It flipped all the way over the cable fence in the median and into the north bound lane.
It may also be a good lesson about why you should buckle up. The driver and front seat passenger were not wearing seat belts. The driver came part-way out of the car and the passenger was completely ejected. Both had to be taken to the hospital, along with a backseat passenger who was not ejected.
