A pair of adults have been arrested in connection to the death of a teenager in northeast Mississippi.
The Tupelo Police Department reports that two men have been locked up on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault after Orelius Boyd, 13, was killed and a second juvenile was injured. While the suspects’ identities have not been publicly released, WTVA pointed out that Reginald Thomas, 22, and Devontae Sharkey, 23, were booked on the day of the shooting on the same two charges.
On Sunday, officers initially responded to a call of shots fired in the Hancock and Boggan Drive area around noon. Police recovered evidence of a shooting and learned that one juvenile male had been taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Around 4:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Government Street for a deceased individual. They discovered Boyd’s body. Boyd was believed to be a victim of the earlier shooting.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the two adult males. Authorities are not searching for any additional suspects at this time.
