JACKSON, Miss.–Mauled by a pit bull earlier this year, Victoria Wilcher is now getting ready to take a trip. She’s going to Florida Sunday to get plastic surgery and a prosthetic eye. Her family has turned down the $30,000 offered to help pay medical bills by KFC.
WAPT TV reported Wednesday that the family turned the money down. This comes after the family’s claims that the three-year-old was asked to leave a Jackson KFC by employees was denied by the restaurant chain.
The family said she was asked to leave because her injuries and her eye patch were disturbing other customers.
The restaurant chain offered the money before concluding an investigation they say shows by video surveillance and electronic records, that the incident never happened.
The family has told media that the incident did happen.
Following national media attention, a plastic surgeon from Las Vegas offered to perform plastic surgery for free and Victoria was offered a prosthetic eye. Both surgeries were expected to be performed Monday in Naples, Fla.
The eye will have to be replaced every six months to a year as the child grows. The doctor who is performing the surgery has said she will get that done for free, too.
