With 58 percent of the vote, Joseph Tubb has defeated Matthew Conoly in Tuesday’s special election runoff in District 87.

Tubb replaces Billy Andrews who resigned in March because members of the House or Senate cannot draw state retirement while serving in the legislature.

In August, when Tubb announced his intention to run for election, he described himself in a Facebook post as a Conservative Republican who would always support policies that are pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, and protect religious freedoms.

Tubb said, “As a member of the business community, I will work to promote pro-business policies and support economic development and growth in our area.  I understand the current business climate and challenges we are facing right now. I know how important the decisions that are being made everyday are to our business owners and those who depend on us. As a father, I will always be a strong advocate for education, and most importantly our teachers. Our teachers deserve more pay. They also deserve to have their voices heard during this pandemic.”

District 87 covers portions of Forrest and Lamar counties.
