JACKSON, Miss.–Healing has been the goal of Dr. Kentrell Liddell all her life, but she’s been spending some time trying to mend her own life after being convicted of embezzlement of your tax dollars. Her medical license was taken away and now she wants it back, she says, to serve sick people in your state once again.
Liddell was convicted of embezzlement of nearly $100,000 in 2009. She was ordered to pay back the money and sentenced to 10 years in prison. She ended up serving two years house arrest. When she was arrested, she was the top doctor for the Miss. Dept. of Corrections.
Liddell said she came up with several innovations which ended up saving the state millions. In the process, she ended up being paid for some of that work beyond her salary and that is against the law. She said it happened when she helped institute the Inmate Specialty Clinic, which county jails began using.
“I did not know that…it was wrong for a state employee to receive additional compensation for additional work,” she said.
Under state law, she lost her medical license and would like to see one of two things happen. Liddell said a pardon from Gov. Bryant would clear her record and allow her to have her license back, or a change in the state code, an amendment of the law by the legislature, would allow the same.
Since she lost her license and after her sentence was complete, Liddell has been making a living from consulting and public speaking.
The Macon native appeared on The Paul Gallo Show on Supertalk Mississippi and on news stations like WCBI this week talking about her case.
