Christmas day is here and many Troopers of the Mississippi Highway Patrol are out on the roadways making sure that Mississippians stay safe. The MHP’s safety initiative, “Making It Home for the Holidays” will continue until the end of 2018.
Captain Johnny Poulos with the MHP reminds that distracted driving can be just as deadly as drinking and driving and urged everyone to stay focused on the road.
“Right now if we went out on I-55 and you saw them actually holding the phone in the process of sending a text message or engaging in some type of activity that’s preventing them to focus on the roadway, [it’s] just about every car you see,” Poulos said. “That’s why distracted driving is so much more dangerous.”
Earlier this month, the MHP released a Christmas video reporting that they hauled the Grinch off to jail and wished everyone safe and Happy Holidays.
Commissioner Marshall Fisher and the entire DPS family would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas. Over the next few days, may you have safe travels if you’ll be on the road, and all the comforts of being surrounded by family and friends whether you’re on the road or at home. pic.twitter.com/5rc0J8EUc6
