While Saturday wasn’t a good day for the Mississippi State men’s basketball team, Monday was as a handful of players were named All-SEC.
Leading the charge was forward Tolu Smith, who was named to the conference’s first team after averaging 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists over 19 regular season games. Smith has been a huge help to the Bulldogs’ paint presence after missing the first half of the season with a leg injury.
Making the second team was freshman phenom Josh Hubbard. The point guard out of Madison-Ridgeland Academy led all scorers in his class with 16.8 points per game in the regular season. He also broke Mississippi State’s program record for most three-pointers in a single season.

Coming in on the All-Defensive team was Cameron Matthews. The forward from Olive Branch is ranked among the SEC’s top 10 in four categories: steals (2.06 – 2nd), rebounds (7.1 – 6th), offensive rebounds (2.48 – 7th) and defensive rebounds (4.61 – 8th).
Mississippi State’s in-state rival, Ole Miss, didn’t come up completely empty on the All-SEC selections with Matthew Murrell being named to the second team. Murrell averaged 16.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists for the Rebels.
Both teams will be back in action on Thursday as part of the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn.
