Three suspects have been arrested in an investigation into postal collection box burglaries in the Jackson metro area.
The Madison Police Department and the U.S. Postal Service began an investigation into the burglary of multiple blue postal collection boxes in the metro area, including a large collection box in the City of Madison. Investigators were led to a suspect vehicle after gathering evidence in the case.
Following a traffic stop on Lakeland Drive, a collection of suspected burglary tools was found in the vehicle. Further evidence of stolen checks and other packages linked to the break-ins were located after multiple agencies found a suspect at the Red Roof Inn off High Street.
Authorities identified the suspects as 21-year-old La Keith D. Fountain of Houston, Texas, 22-year-old Quintin R. Hall of Spring, Texas, and 25-year-old Jazmine R. Page of Avondale, Ariz. All three suspects were booked into the Madison County Detention Center on charges of petit larceny and have not been given bond.
The multi-agency investigation, which also includes the U.S. Postal Service, Capitol Police Department, and Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, uncovered that one burglarized mailbox in Madison included 133 checks totaling around $70,000. A collection box in Brandon was also broken into, along with four mailboxes in Jackson.
Officials said in a statement that additional charges are expected in the ongoing investigation.
