The Trailblazer Award: Mississippi Native Hayley Williams to Get Billboard Award in December

MERIDIAN, Miss.–Hayley Williams was born and raised in Meridian and has become a world-wide household name after having hits as the lead singer for the group Paramore. Dec. 12, she’ll get the Trailblazer Award at the annual Billboard Women in Music event for her unique mark on the music industry.

The award is given to a woman in the music industry who “breaks from convention” to become unique.

Williams moved to Nashville as a teen and tried to become lead singer for a funk band. She eventually networked and ended up working with future Paramore band members and the group released its first album in 2005, when Williams was 16.

Though she sometimes catches flack for her appearance and rotating hair colors, Williams is openly Christian and has discussed her faith frequently in the media.
