Gulfport police got a whole lot more than they bargained for when making a traffic stop for an expired tag last week.
Officers stopped 39-year-old Tracy Antione McCall in the late afternoon of Thursday, January 30, for an expired tag. Detectives observed four grams of fentanyl in McCall’s vehicle in plain sight. Two more grams of fentanyl were found after a search of the car and McCall was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Marcus Taneal Lloyd was found to be in possession of two ounces of fentanyl after a separate traffic stop the next day. A search warrant was executed at a residence in the area in relation to the two incidents.
Gulfport detectives discovered a massive narcotics haul in the search, including almost 16,000 fentanyl-laced pills and more than two pounds of pure fentanyl.
The resident of the house, Jermiya Renee Spears, 31, and Lloyd were arrested after the discoveries. Lloyd is charged with possession of a controlled substance, and Spears is charged with trafficking fentanyl.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, just two milligrams of fentanyl is considered a lethal dose. One kilogram, about the same amount that was found in Spears’ home, has the potential to kill 500,000 people.
The parties arrested in the case remain in custody without bond.
