Portions of southern Mississippi are under a tornado watch until early Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the tornado watch will be in effect until 6 a.m. with future tornado warnings possible. Those currently in areas under the watch are urged to take shelter such as a safe room, basement, storm cellar, or the lowest building level. If there is no basement, go to the center of an interior room on the lowest level away from corners, windows, doors, and outside walls.

Tornadoes can often be produced by hurricanes, which in this case, would be the product of Francine. The Category 2 hurricane made landfall in southern Louisiana on Wednesday evening but has since weakened to a tropical storm.
Mississippi is expected to see rain, storms, possibly severe winds, and flooding on Thursday.
