At least one twister was spotted in south Mississippi on Wednesday afternoon.
Columbia Mayor Justin McKenzie posted a video of the tornado, though the post has since been deleted.
Marion County emergency officials have confirmed that around 20 houses received some damage and at least six businesses sustained minor to significant damage. No injuries have been reported.
Dixie Electric officials reported widespread outages in Wayne County, where storm damage had also been reported. Early reports said nearly 2,000 customers were without power Wednesday night. Singing River Electric and two East Mississippi Power Association crews will assist in recovery and restoration efforts.
The Wayne County School District announced late Wednesday that it would be closed on Thursday.
