Topgolf’s development company is looking to obtain approximately $9 million in sales tax rebates from a Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) program.
PraCon Global Investment Group requested the MDA’s permission to use Mississippi’s Tourism Project Tax Incentive Program Act shortly after Ridgeland officials gave their approval of the proposed site plan and architectural review on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
The program will divert 80 percent of the sales tax collected from the project for the next 15 years or after 30 percent of certain costs have been procured.
PraCon’s CEO and president, Gabriel Prado, told the Madison County Journal that the company expects to collect approximately $8.7 million over the next decade through the rebate plan.
“This is a milestone,” Prado said. “We are very excited and grateful for the support we have received from the Mayor and board.”
The groundbreaking for the new Topgolf facility — which will be located at Prado Vista off Interstate 55 in Ridgeland — is scheduled to begin in the next 60 days.
The location will feature 60 climate-controlled outdoor hitting bays, chef-driven menu items, top-shelf drinks, music, and year-round programming. It’s expected to be fully equipped with Topgolf’s proprietary Toptracer technology to accurately trace the flight path of golf balls.
Approximately 200 people will be employed at the new Topgolf facility.
Plans to construct the two-level venue were announced in July 2022, with additional projects in the area set to include hotels, retail stores, restaurants, an entertainment facility, over 200 homes, a grocery store, and a river walk.
