Sy began his career at Virginia Tech where he played in 32 games, but the 6’10 PF averaged just 4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in limited action. He then transferred out of the program and eventually ended up at Daytona State. Last season with the Falcons, Sy averaged nearly 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. According to 24/7 Sports, Sy also held offers from Texas Tech, LSU, East Carolina, Arkansas and others.
Bruce Stevens graduated following the 2018-19 season, and Dominik Olejniczak transferred, so Sy will have a chance to make an immediate impact for Kermit Davis’ Rebels when the new season begins. He’ll arrive in Oxford with 2 years of eligibility left.
Sy’s teammate from DSU, SG Bryce Williams, is also a part of the Rebels’ 2019 class. Sy is the 6th member of the class that includes Williams, SF Antavion Collum, SG Austin Crowley, PF Sammy Hunter and C Rodney Howard.
