TUPELO, Miss.–The kick-off of the Elvis Festival may be a little wet, but not as bad as what weather forecasters had been calling for. The chance for storms was taken down a couple of notches to 40 percent this afternoon, with a high at 85.
Everywhere else in Mississippi can expect a 70 percent chance of rain and storms, with a high near 90. But, the good news is that the storms will likely not be as intense as the line that moved northwest to southeast through the state Wednesday.
“There’s about a five percent chance of those storms becoming strong to severe,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Edmunston. He said that any severe storms that do form would be of the afternoon pop-up, heat related storms.
Rain chances last into tonight and into Friday. Saturday is expected to be sunny.
