JACKSON, Miss. — Today is the last day for Mississippi to file an appeal over a federal ruling that is keeping Mississippi’s last abortion clinic in business.
Last month, a panel of three judges from the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals blocked Mississippi’s law that requires physicians who perform abortions to have admitting privileges to local hospitals. The court ruled that the Mississippi cannot put the burden of providing the constitutional rights of its citizens on another state.
In order for all 15 circuit judges to rehear the case, a majority of them must agree to do so.
